If you were affected negatively by Google Panda, read this.
If you know someone who claims to have been, read this.
If you know someone who goes around talking about directory and article and forum and blog and social submission...read this.

This guy has actually taken the whole thing and said exactly what needed to be said about the topic and included a visual that makes things so obvious and so clear that even an idiot should be able to figure out how to fix his/her problems.

Panda (as in the non-hairy nearly extinct version) is the update Google launched allegedly in late February, but I was seeing what I personally think were effects as early as Christmas Eve (that is precisely the date Strike Spots traffic tripled). Simply put, it was an update designed to target low-quality content sites and sites that exist primarily for SEO reasons.

This update, according to Google, affected approximately 12% of queries, which meant that it affected approximately 99.9% of the SEO community and led to a whole lot of whining about how horrible Panda is and how Google raped and pillaged the web community and what an evil monopoly that doesn't help anyone Google is and a whole bunch of other stuff that basically validated everything about the update. It targeted all the crap sites like the article farms and the low-grade directories set up for "SEO backlinks" and all the other useless garbage promoted ad nauseam as the universal solution by those who know just enough about SEO to screw themselves up in a big way.

Now that you know that backstory, you can read buddy's post and it will make a whole lot more sense.

Actually, I like Panda and think it's about time quality got a chance - for too long quantity has been ruling the roost.

I so disagree that Panda is all about the user experience. It's all about the user experience IF you are marketing locally only. If you do business throughout the world, Panda is a disaster.

I second the motion. The move by Google Panda to clean low quality sites with many duplicate contents. I guess this is just a wise to protect those with high quality ones.

Thanks Game... for posting this... one of my previous things was a freelance writer for one of the article farms... They even invited me to Cali... to one of their "yearly things"... and one of the moderators asked if I would consider becoming a staff writer... This was 2 years ago.. toyed with the idea... then I started seeing a trend... that most of the articles that were being indexed by google and yahoo... were pretty useless articles as for being in context with what I was searching for....

I discussed this with several others and they all expressed the same concerns.... Having followed the search industry for many years, we all came to the same conclusion.... it was just a matter of time before the search engines did something about it...

In discussions with this company about becoming a staff writer... I brought up my concerns as well... and was pretty much told... their business model was dependent on many of the canned articles they were using... just to get traffic to the site... in short... mind your own business and write content... or don't... I chose not to... and they were one of the major players that were affected by Panda...

I recently received another correspondence from them, requesting that I re-consider becoming a staff writer for them... because they have "re-aligned" their writing goals... to adapt to industry changes.... ( I chuckled... Panda )....

Search engines depend on users.... returning and becoming a loyal following... if they don't do something about making sure they are providing what people are looking for... "relevant search results".... then they will go the way of the dinosaur...

Years ago... if you searched for anything... odds were there was a link to a porn site in the top 10... if not the majority of the top 10... The search engines fixed it... and no one but the porn industry screamed about it...

Now... since most search engines are focusing on actual "content".... they now have to monitor those that are producing tons of "content"... to determine what is useful... and what is useless...

    Panda...

I've had a similar experience, but not as a writer. I had a client "fire" me (the day I quit working with them due to non-payment of invoices) because I refused to submit their article all over the place. The article itself was a complete piece of verbal diarrhea...without getting into details, it was basically culled from about 4 other articles and contained nothing new or original.

They called me back and said that if I apologized and put their article on my site for SEO reasons, they'd let me work with them again. I turned them down, they dumped the article everywhere, and now they're about 6 inches away from company bankruptcy.

Please elaborate. I have sites that do business outside of my local area that I've worked on for both myself and certain clients, and they've generally gone up in terms of referral traffic.
