    Hi all

I have a problem that is part question-part rant (proportions vary according to time of day).

As most of us here, I have website, and I am proud of it. My website hosts the scripts I've written and released. By far, they are most popular pages on the website. These scripts are listed in the major directories, and these directories send me 90% of my hits.

My problem is this: Every once in a while, someone with a dangerously low IQ, or someone who can't be bothered to read the docs, writes a very bad review for one of the directories, slandering a script, and sending down its ratings to eternal doom. My latest problem (the one that set me off now), is an incident on Hotscripts that sent my script from the very first page of the section to page 8! This is the worst one yet.

If the scripts were that bad, then I would completely understand, but I have emails and guestbook signatures saying "the scripts are good". I get lots of suggestions for improvement, and invariably, the suggestions make it into the subsequent versions.

So my question is: How do you deal with such situations? It really affects the hit rate on the website, and is wrong because one person is responsible for the whole mess.

Seriously, how do balance out bad publicity?

On a related rant, why do the people who are happy with your work NOT write reviews? Why is it only unhappy people that write?

Any tips and ideas are certainly welcome and most appreciated. Thanks

I am also interested to know if other webmasters face this kind of problem. If we all face it, maybe we should start telling the directories why their system as it stands is bad and how it could be more fair.

I think the common thought is that if it works, then why make a post about it, but if it doesn't work, then you are likely to want to complain about it.

An example is train services - If they come on time, you don't celebrate, but if they are late, people are frustrated, angry and want returns, discounts and all that malarkey.
