im with the host www.mvhosted.com, and after a tiresome searching on the net, that was the only host to offer free mysql database and supports php4. The thing that is turning most of my guests away is that the advertisements are an overkill with popups on every page. I am now trying to find a new host, but do not have any luck.

It would be very much appreicated if someone could notify me of a host that is ad-free which has mysql database and supports php4 and most of all its free(im still a junior and not that keen on going to paid yet.)
    Thanks for your help.

shauno7: like I keep trying to tell you, good free hosts don't exist. It's a business, just like every other business, and hosts aren't going to go around giving away things like PHP4 and MySQL without a catch. It's just not going to happen. They gotta make their points just like everyone else, and it's about time people realized that. It's not like paid hosting is all that unreasonably priced for the most part; it's just that there is a large portion of the geek population who wants everything for nothing.

Note: this isn't something I apply to web hosting only. I feel the same way about computers in general. I'm watching a ton of very good small businesses just getting killed because they have to mark their stuff up at 5-10% just to be remotely competitive, and it stinks.

So very true. People do everything for gain these days.

Everything good costs money in some way or another.

There are some very cheap MySQL hosts... UK company called 34sp.com gives 30MB of space and MySQL for 15 pounds per year (approx $25)... not a lot really....

thanks seanmiller for the recommendation, $23 isn't that much pa. ill take that into account. But i was wondering, they didn't say it was ad free. would you happen to know?

yea, and also what thegame1264 said. but don't free hosting servers try and the best free hosting first before they encourage you to go to paid hosting? therefore they should be at least one of these free hosts around.

There used to be. And as soon as the hosts that offered this realized that they were just getting tire kickers and people uninterested in paid hosting, they dropped the idea. Brinkster did that, for example.

Generally if you're paying for hosting, they don't have ads at all.

http://www.supanames.co.uk/ is another ad free host. But check the list of file restrictions on the budget package.
