    Hi,

I'm looking for a relatively cheap web host that:
    • Reasonable amount of storage (but most of my content will be in a mysql database so mysql quota is more important.)
    • PHP, MySQL, .htaccess, SMTP, supports the upload of ZIP files
    • I would be willing to pay up to about 4 or 5 a month (or is this a bit low?)
    • Reliable support and good uptime
I would be hosting a site that will be about web design; I will be making templates and writing tutorials and blog entries. I will also have a forum. Does anyone have any ideas?

Also, is there some domain registrars I should avoid? I have had a quick look (I will have to get a .co.uk as the .com is taken), but would it be better to get the domain at the same place as the hoster?

    Thanks in advance,
    Andy

1&1 should fall in your price range. I use namecheap.com, or spry.com for domain registration.

I keep hosting and domains separate, as much as possible.

I've just looked at 1&1 and to get 2 mysql databases included I need to pay 10 a month which is too much for a site that might not even get lots of hits or generate lots of money through ads. Is it possible to upgrade their basic package to have mysql, as I don't need their pre-installed software like photo gallery? Can anyone with a 1&1 account confirm this?

That would be something that you would have to contact them to work out.

These people have good reviews and seem to be cheap. Best of all, unlimited SQL databases! (obviously it will take some hosting space up!)
