Hey everyone! I have been wondering - I'm familiar with deploying websites on ASP/.NET based servers and am familiar with the concepts of developing/testing in one location and then deploying somewhere else. However I'm not sure how to do this in a LAMP based environment in which the web servers are provided by a hosting company.

Can anyone offer any insight on how I might accomplish this?

    Thanks as always!

Cloud computing is the way of the future.

Look into Amazon Web Services and their Elastic Cloud.

http://www.rightscale.com is an Amazon Elastic Cloud reseller.

Interesting - however my company isn't at the point where we can invest that monthly fee yet. Right now I'm looking for more of a homegrown solution/methodology. But this is DEFINITELY something that we'll be able to take advantage of in the future. That good problem hasn't arrived yet

There's no monthly fee on basic Amazon elastic cloud servers.

You only pay $0.10 (yes, 10 cents) per hour that the virtual machine is online. That comes out to +/- $60 per month if you keep your server online 24/7.

You can create 1,000 virtual servers, and put them online for one hour and only pay $100 for that hour. (Many companies do just that, in fact, when they need to do number-crunching at a discount).

RightScale is a reseller that offers managed cloud solutions. You don't have to use them to use AWS VMs.
