There are a few webhosting review sites out there (some of which are linked below) that all seem to recommend the same handful of hosts. Yet, when I read up on some of the hosts, through user reviews, some of them (most notably iPowerWeb) aren't given great reviews. This starting making me suspicious and caused me to wonder if these 'review' sites aren't just another money-making scheme (i.e., the host that pays them the most gets the best review). Can we trust sites such as these, do you think?

The majority should be fine. However, I'd ask about hosts in a host in question in many different forums and sites just to be sure.

Also remember that the bigger hosts, which may get better reviews, will also have more people who've had bad experiences... just due to the nature of their size.

I am *strongly* under the impression that these sites are nothing more than paid link advertising. The sites are listed in order of monies paid for the link, nothing else. These "reviews" sites are simply a hard marketing tactic. I would absolute *never* trust a review site for webhosting. *Always* do research on sites such as,, (in the forums) - and, of course, Usenet (Googlegroups). Check for bad recommendations - every host has a critical failure to contend with in their business life, but reoccuring problems are a very bad sign.

The hsot review sites revenue comes from the hosting companies, even some review sites have their top 10 areas as billable advertising spots, you can't trust any of them, they don't care about providing info, they care about getting the money.
