does anyone know of a good service to watch domains by their length?
(ie. I want to search for all available domains that are 2 and 3 characters long)

I'll be surprised if you can find any 2 letter domains available - I believe restrictions were imposed on those some time ago.

As for 3 letter domains - sorry, no idea how to search, other than to use the ICANN database to screen particular choices.

I thought so about the 2 letter domains.. I know that if they were purchased before the restrictions were imposed they CAN be available for sale by the original owners.. but thats a long shot and the ones I have found are rediculously priced ($25,000ish)..

Even 3 letter domains are long gone.
Remember, Al Gore invented the internet long time ago.

And I think the one letter domains have been grandfathered.
Is cool how Nissan bought www.z.com

Any idea why they put the restriction there in the first place?

Possibly because of the silly trading in them - as pointed out, 2 character domain names are commonly offered for thousands of dollars.

So what? I remember when domain names were selling for milions of dollars! If the name is capable of making money, why shouldn't it be worth money?

I don't see people restricting 1-800 numbers that spell words just because they sell for money (i.e. 1-800-tickets). That's the nature of commerce and commercial societies (like ours)

You can look for country domains (.es,.nl,.fr,.de....) as they are not so much fully blown, at least they don't sell for 25000 bucks.
