What sort of free host do you want? How many banners and pop-ups do you want on your site?

I think lycos supports PHP - but you need to be prepared for slow loading times and service plus ads on every page. with pop-ups every time you change page AFAIK

Correct me if I'm wrong and i will go and hide in the corner with a "dunce" hat on my head...

Free hosting with no banners? Get out of 1995! Today's hosting comes with a minimum of 3 banners and 4 pop-up ads. And they'll shut down your site for the day if you go over your 100kb bandwidth allotment.

I tried uploading PHP Nuke to my lycos page, but i had a filename error. I was wondering if you can rename, by removing the period, the .htaccess files without screw up nuke?

MyIkonboard.com offers free hosting and installed PHP I believe, but it's very basic (you can't really customize it) and of course you wouldn't be able to move your PHPBB board there.

As for hostultra.com, what's the catch? No banners and no ads? Either it's very limited in bandwidth or their service is questionable. For simplicities sake, I'd just fork out the 7 or 8 clams at sites that offer pre-installed php boards.
