I have someone who wants to change their domain registrar to godaddy... will this create any downtime for the site? Or will it happen seamlessly?

It will happen seamlessly. DNS setting will be preserved during the transfer, so no downtime should happen.

Just a note, don't transfer if the domain is expiring in 45 days or less. Bad things happen if you do that LOL

first of all if the domain is expiring in 45 days or less, you might not get the extra year that most registrars give you upon transfering. I know enom does that, not sure about godaddy.

Your original registrar might delay the transfer and the domain might expire during the transfer procedure. I know at least two people who have gone through that agony and ended up changing their domains.
