At the momment I been using webforwarding so my damain name points to my webspace. I'm not very please with this, so if I updated the "www" type to be a "CNAME" type pointing to "mywebspace.co.uk." would it work or would I just bum up my zone file?

    CNAME?

The traditional way of working with DNS entries is to get a host and point the domain to the DNS entries the host specifies. Webforwarding usually isn't customizable.
