This is going to sound absolutely insane, but this has never happened to me before in the five years I've done web design so I have no idea what the answer is to this:

One of my clients who registered his domain name himself let the domain name expire without renewing it. I've renewed it for him today (and set up an email forward to both him and me for the specific purpose of receiving the email renewal notice when it comes so it doesn't happen again). My question is how long will it take for the change in expiry dates to propagate so that the site can be seen again? Or is this the same as changing a DNS?

    Thanks for your help.

I believe it's just updating DNS settings so one to two days in the US, a bit more overseas or on bad ISPs.

That's what I figured too. And since the site only focuses on Ontario (for now) North America is all I really care about.

From what I remember, it takes a little longer if you allow the name to expire.

Sometimes there is a hold placed on the name by the registrar when it expires.

If someone else has ordered a snap-back purchase of the domain name, they now have precedence over you.

I've only read about it, though. Never actually had it happen to me.
