    What this tutorial does:
Shows you how to design a quick and dirty site using a few basic tools.

    What you need:
    Adobe Photoshop (preferably version 7.0)
Macromedia Dreamweaver (I prefer version 4 because it loads fast, but MX can work as well)

    What you need to do:
    1. Open up Photoshop

    2. Creat a new image, with width as 758 and height as 500, or whatever fits best.

    3. Design your site, with the navigation elements, etc., but leave out everything that is in the content of your site, like text, links, etc.

    4. This is the hard part. If you have Photoshop 7, it's really easy, but if you don't, this is where you'll have to bribe somebody to let you use PS7.

Using the Slice tool that's in Photoshop 7, slice up your image, starting with your navigation, and anything else that will show up as a link. Then, slice the content areas into appropriate pieces for easy HTML editing.

    5. Now, save the image as HTML & Images into any directory, and open up the resulting HTML file in Dreamweaver.

    6. Now, in the white areas where the content should go, delete the blank pictures and type in your text. If the background color is different, set the background color accordingly.

    7. Click on your navigation links, etc., and link them to their appropriate addresses.

    8. Save, and you're done!

    Wasn't that easy and fun?

    Me likey!

I also agree about DWMX, I have DW4 and MX and MX takes forever to start that I sacrifice its features for the speedy DW4

Just suggesting, couldnt you use ImageReady with PS 5.5+, also? Instead of being limited to just PS7?

IMO IR has a more clunky interface (zooming is different for example) but then again, you're right, it is designed for slicing and web stuff.

this tut is GREAT! it also seems to work for creating visual styles for the vbb forums and maybe u guys can answer me this question...

In most forums ppl use a graphical bar of sorts to show separation in the categories for vbb (ex. - The ekko skin from vbforumskins.com). how exactly to i go about cutting that up for html/php coding?

Please post it in a separate thread in one of the appropriate forums so others can see it
