I have been having terrible time with hosting companies. I had been with AvaHost for about 8 years but their service has become non-existent.

I signed up with MyReseller.com a week ago, what a nightmare. The site was up for 2 days and now it is down and has been 5 days. They won't do anything other than tell me they have rebooted the server or they have a SATA cable issue and it is resolved. When I ask for a refund they say it is working now, try it (and it doesn't). When I ask for the account code so I can call them (can't call them w/o the code) they tell me it is working now try it. When I ask for a refund (they have a 100% Money Back Guarantee) they say it is working now, try it.

So I have a very sour taste in my mouth for hosting companies. First and foremost I am looking for someone with customer service and who isn't going to tell me they rebooted the server... it works now. Most of what I do is Non-profits and pay myself to host their domains but can't have their domains down, they depend on them dearly.

    Thanks for any guidance!:classic:

I understand what a proxy is, but not exactly what you are getting at? A new service, existing service???? What would the proxy show?

    Thanks,

I'm just saying that maybe the problem was fixed, but the downtime was saved in your local ISP's cache.

Try accessing your site through a proxy. If it works, then the issue is fixed on their end and you just have to wait for your local ISP to flush.

None of this changes the lousy service and refusal to refund of course.

It's pretty unlikely that an ISP cache would cause a delay in seeing the issue fix. It's not impossible, but unlikely. Usually things like a DNS update would be tied to an ISP cache more than things like a server reboot.

The best, and only, thing you can do is to find another host, move your sites as quickly as possible, cancel the old hosting plan (which is the only way you can claim the money back guarantee) and then get on the phone with your credit card issuer as soon as possible to let them know the situation...they can always refund the charge if need be. The longer you let the existing host do this, the more excuses and silly things you'll see (SATA cable issue? WEAK!)

You're going to have to pick someone or something, whether you like it or not. That's the bad news. The good news is that there are good to great hosts out there, and quite a few of them. Here are the guys I've been using for just under 9 years. They're not big to the point where they forget who you are (at least the higher-ups know who I am, anyway) but they're not a fly-by-nighter either.

Well said! And you are right, it is unlikely that its an ISP problem, but it's so easy and quick to check that its worth finding out!

But yes, get away from that host asap and alert your credit card as well! Can't hurt to be safe.

Thanks for the advise, I logged into work also (straight connection to the web through State connection) getting same results there (and also our TimeWarner connection) it is just their bs excuse.

I am a network admin at work, if my server was down that many days I would be out of a job.

    Thanks again

Not if you worked for your soon-to-be-ex-host.

haha yup. That pretty much knocks out an ISP problem.

Not if you worked for your soon-to-be-ex-host
    LOL.
