I need to create an online brochure website for business purpose.
It should be attractive, interactive and informative with a "Contact us" option.

The web hosting provider has 2 options for platform : 1) Linux & 2) Linux +JAVA

But, with addition of Java in platform choice, price is increasing manifold.
Also, with addition of database services like MySQL ,price increases significantly.

As far as I know, in order to build good eye catchy websites, Java is needed in front end ( JavaScript, Ajax)
Also, PHP CMS like Joomla,Drupal use database and I will end up buying database unnecessarily.

Is it possible to build an attractive online brochure website using only PHP without using Java /database?
Any information on technology that I should use so that I can develop an interactive website with bare minimum infrastructure will be welcome in fastest time..

    Thanks !

Which hosting provider are you using? It sounds terribly restrictive and expensive.

yes it does.... I haven't seen pricing structures like that in a long time...

most hosting providers ( including my own )... offer a set fee for all that ( actually it's included in the price )... I bet they have high bandwidth additional cost as well...

as for the question... JAVA is a programming language... java server pages is a scripting language to leverage the actual java components in the design environment...

javascript has absolutely nothing to do with JAVA... ( common misconception )... javascript is a client side programming language that is mostly used for interactivity and functionality that basic HTML cannot offer... but requires no additional support from the server side...

Ajax is an expansion on the javascript language and the most popular uses are for asynchronous data connections that do not require to page to be refreshed to see the changes...

both javascript and ajax are components that no hosting provider should charge extra for as they have no impact on the server... they are served as text.. and the client computers ( visitors ) will execute it...

PHP is a scripting language that can be used for many things....

and yes you can create a brochure site without using any of the above mentioned components being involved... HTML and CSS is all you need... but using AJAX and possibly some jQuery can add some "interesting effects"... to the site...

meh, webzarus beat me to it. Java is completely different, and you definitely won't be needing it for a brochure site. You need good HTML/CSS skills, design skills, a dash of jQuery(not completely necessary), and PHP for the contact form. You won't need MySQL if you're just doing a simple brochure site, so no need to pay for that. All you need to do is make sure that your host supports PHP, the rest is all there for ya

Thanks all of you for clearing doubts I had !

Now I am going to use their LINUX only platform without database support.

I can therefore use jQuery , Ajax , PHP ( for contact us ) , HTML ,CSS as none of them need JAVA on server side.

I have 1 week to develop this website. I have little idea about each of them, but never wrote a full website using them. Hopefully, it will go fine ..

You're not gonna get it in a week. Especially if you haven't even done a site before.

Exactly. Just learning HTML/CSS and learning them properly will take you months, maybe years.

What I would suggest you do, because you only have one week, is to do whatever you can using static HTML, don't worry about learning how to build a contact form and doing all that, just a straight HTML series of pages, put them together, put them up. It'll probably be coded badly and it will probably need a lot of post-launch work, but at least it will be up. Then learn the other stuff after and add the pieces in as you go along.

Normally, this is not a good course of action. In your case, however, you don't really have a whole lot of other options.

I will go with your suggestions and yeah inexperience with these technologies must be showing quite clearly in my last post ... But, I am really hard pressed on time. Maybe within a week to a month max., I will have to show something presentable..

So, I will share site link with you guys once it is up and running ..,
so that I can have your opinions on it ..

    Thanks Again !
