Exclamation Creating online file storage website through my home server

I am trying to create a File Storage website for a few friends of mine. I already have a web domain and a server at home. What I am trying to do is create a website that a person can sign in. And upload and download files that only they can access. And also have a public file section.

I know most of these already exist but we want our own. Can someone here point me in the right direction to getting this started?

I have very basic knowledge of Servers and web domains.

For starters, you'll need to check your ISP's terms and conditions. Most of the residential-class ISPs frown upon running a web server from one's house.

If your ISP says it's okay and you have sufficient upstream to handle the users you anticipate (only a few is good) then what I would suggest you do, rather than using the domain, is use Free Dynamic DNS - Managed DNS - Managed Email - Domain Registration - No-IP to create a host assigned to your IP. If your ISP allows for static IPs then use the domain. If not, no-ip.info.

Once you've got that squared away, you'll probably want to look at something like these. PHP File Upload scripts - Free, commercial and open source scripts
