Wix or WordPress for a Hobby Class listing website?

    Hi!

I am new to building websites and am researching. I want to build a Hobby Class listing website. I searched for free WordPress themes as well as Wix templates and honestly liked free Wix templates better.

What should I opt for? Does WIx offer search capability?

    Can someone please help.

    - MS

I am not a fan of WP or Wix but i'd definitely recommend WP over Wix. WP allows more customizability that wix lacks in. If im not mistaken Wix also has to host Wix sites? So that means you are limited even more.

Is the objective of this project to create a hobby class site? Or to teach yourself to create a website? It can be both but if your objective has anything to do with teaching yourself how to build a site you would be doing yourself a disservice using Wix. Using WP would be an improvement but not by much.

    Thanks Vapr_Arts. Appreciate your response.

This website will be a hobby classes finder. I also intend to have weekly/months events advertised there.
I understand you're not too impressed with WP or Wix. What would be your suggestion? I am at a vfery very basic level right now.

    Thanks,
    Monirupa

Like i said my recommendation is based on what your intentions are. Thats why i ask if you are building this to learn how to build a website or are you doing this as a business.

If you want to learn to code i suggest you actually learn to code by hand. The basics at least. Understanding HTML/Css will help a lot and what you cant do on your own we can help.

If you are trying to create a website for a business i recommend hiring a professional. Businesses are one of those things where you don't try and do it all for as cheap as possible. Sure save money when its smart but for something as as important as a website wouldn't be smart to be thrifty on.

If you're about to choose between WordPress and Wix, I would definitely go with WordPress. You can start with free version and upgrade later on. The professional thing to do would definitely be to create your own website.
