Facebook locked me out of my account because MediaCom changed my IP address ages ago. I did not provide my cellphone number so there is no way to get back in.

But now I am receiving Spam from Facebook and R & R Web Design LLC. Here is the senders address:
    "R & R Web Design LLC <notification+kr4m2yxs4e5a(AT)facebookmail.com>; " -- edited so it is not a live link.

ETA: It doesn't even go to an email address I use often - this goes all the way back to August and continues frequently.

I'm a Facebook political prisoner. I'm there because I need to be for certain aspects of my business.

However, I never give them anything they can use. I make things up, I post random comments, and I basically treat it as MySpace circa 2006-2007.

So I guess I'm missing the question here

Do you want to get back into Facebook , stop the spam ? Or both ?

Facebook won't ban you for an IP address change... If that were the case they would have banned me numerous times... And they don't have my phone number either... As long as you have access to the email account you signed up with, you should be able to request a password reset, sent to that email address.

As for the spam, that has nothing to do with Facebook ( per SE ), but more the pluggins and addon programs and apps you give permission to use your account info. And if your email provider has any kind of spam filters, you should be able to report this as spam and get it stopped.

Actually, I was wondering that myself. I've had my account suspended with them before, but it was because someone registered a fake profile "on my behalf" and started sending spam to my friends.

Unfortunately, I had to give them a scanned copy of my driver's license to get access to my account (which had never been hacked), but I blacked out every piece of information I didn't have to send them before I did it.

Look at it this way...Facebook will in all likelihood start dying off this year, go through a decline that will rapidly increase, and then we'll be talking about it by the end of 2014 the way we would about Classmates.com or MySpace or phpLd directories or article farms while we get all sorts of offshore advice talking about how we should still "submit our sites" to it.

I believe every business needs to be part of atleast one social network, preferably if possible, multiple.
Social networks helps you to interact with your customers, way more than any other medium.

Because it's at that point where the honeymoon phase has worn off, they're starting to make overreaching statements with privacy (e.g. the Instagram fiasco), they introduce features no one really wants and make the site harder to use (e.g. the timeline) and there was a survey a while back that indicated that the majority of people dislike it. I don't normally agree with the majority, but in this case the majority is right.

This would make sense if social networks were set up with a business-to-customer relationship in mind. They were never set up this way (with the possible exception of LinkedIn) and they tend to generate lower ROIs and conversion ratios than things such as search and a referral link from a solid source of traffic.

Facebook and Twitter aren't malls, and the people that use them aren't customers...they're users first and foremost. They're not primarily there to actively seek information and/or things to buy...their primary goal is simply to talk to other people. The problem is that the message of "you can reach your customers on social media" is so engrained that people don't question it anymore. This isn't to say that people can't become customers, but that it should at best be a complementary source of potential business.

The last time I heard someone preaching how "every business" needs to be on Facebook... It was from a "social marketing specialist", who promised they could get me $100k in increased sales for the measly cost of only $10k.

I said great, but here's the catch, you get me an increase of $100k in sales that you can verify came from your efforts, I'll be glad to pay you the $10k but only AFTER you get me the sales.

Actually had 1 company take the deal... They gave up after 3 months ( actually closed their business ), what was my companies benefit from 3 months of "social marketing"? $0 net.

Point is, the "social marketing speciist" actually believe thier own spiel, until asked to do something that might cost them money.

As TheGame pointed out above, none of the social platforms are actually designed for this kind of stuff, not even linkedin is, but at least LinkedIn has "groups" based on interest and industries that as long as you set yourself up properly, people will find you.

Facebook... Unless you're giving something away, people generally ignore your ads, and I've yet to find anyone on Facebook that is looking for high efficiency transformer materials. Hey, it's a billion dollar global industry
