I learned about this eBook yesterday. I haven't actually read it yet, and it isn't mine. But apparently it's become so popular that it's showing up on torrent sites, even though it's legitimately free to download, so there likely may be something to it.

Just curious to see what others think.

    Hello TheGAME1264,

Thanks so much for sharing the book here. I appreciate it.

I think I've only mentioned that fact in two places, so it is funny to hear you mention it. The book has been really well received, so I'm thankful for that. I treated it like a real book, not just some marketing gimmick, like most free ebooks are. It was in development for 9 months and had a budget behind it. In the course of normal monitoring, I came across the book being listed on some sketchy looking torrent sites and that is pretty funny since it is available for free download internationally, DRM-free, in three formats (PDF, ePUB and MOBI) with no strings attached (no email address required or asked for, nothing). So, anyway, just a funny little story.

    Thanks again,

    Patrick

Very good read, I just had a quick skim. I have no experience with running forums, but I suspect the hardest thing is to get that initial core of decent members and that critical mass of content. Warrior forum and Wicked Fire seem to have pretty good business models and rules. It would be an interesting experiment to set up a forum about internet marketing or get-rich-quick schemes, create a few threads and phantom members, auto-approve everything and then leave it run for 12 months without any moderation.

No problem, Patrick. I started listening to the Copyright 2.0 Show 4 episodes ago when I discovered that I can download the MP3 and put it on while I work out on Saturdays...when you guys do a 1 hour, 10 minute show, it's the perfect length for 40 minutes of cardio, followed by 30 minutes of my modified negative lift workout (10 second raise, 10-15 second hold, 10 second lower).

Anyway, I also read it somewhat quickly but somewhat thoroughly. If you're not someone who has studied a great deal of CPM/CPC/CPA networks and programs out there, it's definitely a thorough explanation of all of them, the ins, the outs, etc. If you are someone who has done a bit of your homework, there's still something in there. For example, I had heard vaguely of Skimlinks but always thought it was some sort of harvester of traffic...I never knew what it actually was or did until I looked into the book. I don't have a use for it right now, but I actually might down the road, so it's good knowledge. So there's something in it for everyone, regardless of who you are or what you know, even if you think you know everything (and we get our fair share of those types in here).

My two criticisms are very minor in nature and don't detract from the overall book itself...they're just things that would be "nice to improve on".

    1) The TrustE free privacy policy tool. I had never heard of it before, so I tried it. The whole process of using the tool and being upsold made me feel like I was signing up for one of the crappy free eBooks on one of those excessive get-rich-quick sites. It wasn't, but for some really bizarre reason the graphics and the layout they used reminded me of the one-page here's-a-$19.95-download-that-will-change-your-life-guaranTEED! (Not a guarantee.) I also had to significantly modify the output, both from an HTML and from a content point of view, to get it to work with the site I tried using it for. If there's another privacy policy generator out there (and I've never bothered to look myself), then you might want to look at putting that in there.

    2) The ad networks. You list them all, which is great, but what I'd like to know is if you've tried them (other than Skimlinks) and which ones did and did not work for you. For example, you list off all the major CPM networks, which is great...but what I'd like to know is if they worked for you? What did they pay you? What sort of sites were the networks used on? I know that some such as Adsense don't let you reveal everything (or on some cases anything), but any info you could provide would really add even more value to what is an excellent read as it is.

Again, these are very minor criticisms. I'm going to have to look at more of your stuff that you do when I get the chance. I'm pretty familiar with Jonathan's stuff, as he's one of the few people that actually has given me legitimate, solid advice that I could use over the years, but I only just learned about you a month ago. But I'm definitely going to poke around the iFroggy network as soon as I get some time.

Oh yeah...let me know when the Blu-Ray comes out. I want a signed copy.

    Hey TheGAME1264,

Thank you for the message and for listening to the Copyright 2.0 Show.

I'm glad that you enjoyed the book and I appreciate the feedback. The graphics on that privacy policy site and the way it is set up are a little cheesy. The reason I opted for that one is because, in the end, I felt that it offered the best final result for readers of the book and that it was worth whatever minimal annoyances that had to be put up with. The other ones I either didn't care for or didn't really feel comfortable with who was offering them. I used to like the one provided by the Direct Marketing Association (that is the one I included in my first book), but unfortunately, they have put it behind a log in and it is now only available for paying DMA members. But I'll keep my eye out in case a better one comes along!

Regarding the specific ad networks, it was sort of a conscious thought not to talk about specific services in detail, but instead to focus on how to get the most out of the tools themselves. For example, to talk about how to get the most out of ad networks, not to talk about how to get the most out of Tribal Fusion specifically. Like you mentioned "except Skimlinks," but I didn't really talk about Skimlinks performing better than other in-text services, either. I just talked about how to get the most out of in-text services and those strategies can apply to future players, as well, who don't even exist yet.

The big reason is so that the book doesn't become dated. Good strategies for ad networks don't change as often as good strategies for a particular service. What is performing well now might not even be around 5 years from now and with this book, I really took a long term perspective to it because I want it to be something that has value not just 3 months or a year after release, but 5 years or longer.

I appreciate your kind words about Jonathan. I'll pass this thread onto him. He does web publishers a great service with his work at Plagiarism Today and his selfless offering of assistance to anyone who asks.

I'll add you to the Blu-ray waiting list. :-D Haha.

    Thanks again,

    Patrick

Thanks for the link, a great e book, with plenty of information which can be used on any site, not just forums.
Thank you Patrick, for writing this e book and also making it free to download. It has certainly given me plenty of ideas on how to monetize my own site.
    Regards Gerald.

No strings attached for the ebook. We'll see what happens when the Blu-ray comes out, though! Heh.
