People come here and ask this question all the time. There are websites out there on virtually every subject, so a website can be made about anything. Does that mean you can make a website about anything? No. For your website to be successful, it needs to be about a subject that you are knowledgeable and passionate about. We know nothing about you, so I don't anticipate any valueable suggestions being posted. How about a website about Country Gospel Music? This idea may sound silly to you, but somewhere out there there's a succesful site about it. Choose a subject that you like and can make a quality website about, and give it your best shot.

I agree completely with spluf. Nobody on earth can say, "Oi you, you must make a site about this". We just can't. It is up to you to decide. What do you like? What are your hobbies? What do you know a lot about? What do you know a lot about that other people may be interested in?

Ask yourself these questions. I mean, I could say, "Go and make a site about how magazines are made" (I just saw a mag on my desk). You may know nothing about this or where to even start and so, this idea would be useless. You get my drift?

We don't know anything about you, or what you like. Only you know that. I was basically just expanding on spluf's post so I probably didn't really help any further than he did Well anyway, thanks for reading, will7.

Agree with the others. You're probably going about it the wrong way round.

List all your hobbies, recreations, enthusiasms, pastimes and passions. Choose one about which you really think you know a lot. Then check out whether there's any interest in it on the Internet, using the search tools in Overture and 7Search.

    Relevant pages:
    http://www.content.overture.com/d/USm/ays/index.jhtml
    http://payperranking.com/

Then, have a look in Google to see what kind of sites come up for those search terms and how much 'competition' there will be.

Next, write your site using the best search terms in the relevant pages.

That's a start, but then you need to obtain relevant links, optimise the pages for the search engines....

There's lots of information about such things - some of it on this very site.

And if it looks more daunting than you feared, you're not alone. After several false starts and late-night soul searchings, I still haven't managed to launch my first web site!

Here's hoping you show more fortitude than I've managed to muster thus far... :ermm:

If anyone does know what to do with a site, I think they're; a) working for someone, b) lacking in imagination or c) lucky!
    "What a cuffule!"
    "Yeah I know!"

Are you really making a site just for the heck of it? Just to fill up the alotted space that you got? That really doesn't work, which I know from trying it myself long ago.
I completely agree with what everyone else said though.
I'm pretty much in the same boat as sarab. Although I have launched websites, the only one that kept was my blog, and that was only because I could think up new material to keep it interesting.
I haven't had any other sites on the web recently because the concepts I'm making aren't coming out the way I'd like. Be prepared for that to happen.
