Hi. I'm an amateur designer and recently my boss asked me to create a web site for one of his businesses. I have designed something and now want to know your opinions on it. As I said, I am an amateur so all comments will be appreciated. Thanks.

ok the leafy background is very annoying (i dont know why), theres to much empty space at the bottom of the page, content should maybe be farther away from the edges of the white area, there seems to be many empty white spaces, buttons at the tops font is too big and/or the buttons are to big and the black around them doesnt look to "clean"

I found the colour of the leaf background too close to the nav bar's for things to be as clear as they might.

I also thought you could go for an 'outdoorsy' feel without the blatant rustic look. It's a bit literal.

BTW, the background takes a while to appear for a dial-up visitor, and is a bit of a let-down after the wait.

And, it seems a bit cheeky to claim that the periodical is unique, while at the same time asking people to stipulate what they'd like to see in it as it's under development.... Why not just be up-front and ask 'can we e-mail you?'.

    Good luck with your efforts.

It's OK. I recommend putting the mailing list subscription info on it's own page. I don't know why but there's way too much space at the bottom.

your second design is much better, I also like the navigation buttons you chose in the second design. The only suggestion I have is the change the black text on dark brown background you have down by the form and E-mail info. The black on dark brown is way too hard to read.

Yes, the second one is much nicer, but the black on brown text is tough.

I liked the leaves you had on the banner on the first index...Maybe have leaves sticking out of the edges of the "content box"

Or if you're up for an almost new design...

Keep the almost black/white background but then make the background for the "content box" a bunch of leaves that are colored(dark), and have white text on the colored leaves. Just an idea...Get it?

the 2nd one is quite nice, I prefer the colours - but move the mailing list gizmos to a new page since they make the page look too busy and most people will just ignore them since they are a page lower than the more important "enter forum"-links.

OK dude. Get rid of the leaf background!!! It is absolutley horrible and just makes the page look ugly. Sorry, but it does.

Nav is better on 2nd design - some rollovers would finish it off nicely

Between all the "Enter out forums" and the form and stuff, there is massive gaps. No need for such big gaps, smallen (?) them.

I would try and lighten the whole design. It all seems a bit dull & dark the minute

Well, hope I guided you a bit in the way of improvement. 2/5 as it is.

    OK. I've been busy.
First of all I don't know what this black on brown is about, the text is creme colored on the page as far as I know. At least it should be. Anyway, there are now 3(!) designs I am trying to choose from.

The mailing list stuff will be moved to another page shortly per everyone's recommendation. So, what style do you prefer, or should I go in yet another direction?

    Thanks.
