    Ok.... here it is...

There was a comment made by ivcho in the following thread:

    http://www.webdesignforums.net/thread5429.html

images?.. I didn't see a single image on the site.. I think even Eric Jordan couldn't make a "wow" design without images.. why do YOU think you could..
So I said "HEY !! Forget Eric Jordan... I think *I* could do that!"

Well, here's what I've got so far... all 500k of it:

    http://www.advancedwebcontent.com/html_only.htm

Now, most of the file size comes from the ASCII image of my girlfriend, which I'm gonna be forced to take down once she sees it, anyhow

The javascripts for the top menu are still kinda screwy.

Most of the effects in the site were achieved by client-side javascript (the fades, grids, etc) which render HTML real-time.

I'm gonna put more work into it, but I'm happy with it so far.

    What does everyone else think?

Fun concept isn't it!?! I started an experiment like that just last week, except that my attempt at it (which isn't done) tries for not only NO images, but no javascript, and no tables. Whatta pain in the butt!

Yours came out very nice in IE6.0, I like it very much, my only comments would be that it doesn't come anywhere near working in Mozilla or Opera, and the filesize is pretty damn huge for not having any images! To me one of the advantages of an imageless design would be lighting fast load time. Then again, it's 100 times better looking than my try.

Ok, I elliminated the ASCII art of my girlfriend and the file is down to 95k.

Still a majority of that is the ASCII art in the header of the page.

95k is acceptable, I think. no?

I checked. Without any ASCII art, the file size is 13k. Not bad at all !!!

I wonder how long it took to make the "HTML ONLY" at the top. Is it made out of colored in tables.

    Peace

No, it's made of ASCII art.

I actually cheated on that part, and used an ASCII art generator on an image of the text. Don't tell anyone, k?

Throw in some CSS effects everywhere. Then it will truly look great, even without images.

ASCII Art generator.. Wow, cool idea! Never would have thought of that.

    http://josh.ambrutis.com

Nowhere near as slick as yours, but fun to do, going to work on it this weekend. Lemme know what you think

Uhhh...that site has an image in it.

    document.write('<i' + 'mg src="spacer.gif" width="' + width + '" height="' + height + '" border="0" /><br>')

Cheater. Cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeater. (I don't care that spacer.gif probably is a transparent gif either.)

I dunno, dude. Anyone who has that much time on their hands to be doing that really needs a hobby.
