I've got some serious housecleaning to do on my website, I let it get way out of hand and now I need to know . . .

Is there a tool with Dreamweaver MX or some other (free) online tool that I can use to weed out the old images that none of my pages link to any more???

    thanks

If I understand you correctly, you are looking for a tool that checks for broken links? www.netmechanic.com is a great tool that will check for broken links, and alot more. check it out either way

No, I think the other way around, I need to find all the files that are sitting there and are no longer linked to by any of my pages.

There may be a better way to do this:

Get the HomeSite editor (4.5.2 or better) or some other text editor with extended find/replace capabilities (beyond that of the document you're in, that is.) Then use your site statistics package (depending on what it is) and print out the "Bad Requests/404 Errors/something similar" report. Use the links in conjunction with the extended find tool to weed out all of your old images.

NetMechanic, as suggested earlier, may do the same thing, but I'm not sure about images.

Hmmm... I think I could write a program that does this in ASP (maybe even PHP). It might be worth making.

The only problem here is that it's got to take a start page and spider the entire site. Then it's got to find all the links (images AND pages) that ARE used and compare them against the actual files that exist in the root directory. Finally, it will give you a list of files not being used in the site with options to delete them. How's that sound?
