Opinions on updated design?

Hi all,

I was wonddering if you could give your thoughts on this design?

Don't bother with any of the links it's just a homepage at the moment. It's an updated version of the ghastly www.pitchside.net

The code isn't great at the moment - quite a few tables - but I'm mainly trying to improve the design.

Again, i'm having problems with this. I prefer the original tbh. The colours in the header really brighten the site up (in the old one) you have killed it by using a dark header that doesn't mix well with the yellowish colour scheme.

The design is by nature basic, content is easy enough to navigate so no real problems there. Simple sites can be effective if colour and css is used well and I think this is the area where you fall back on! Perhaps a background pattern/colour might bring it together?
