My site : http://www.publicbelief.com/ loads the content in a frame off of brinkster. However, this means that any cookies will be considerd 3rd party cookies and by default settings wont be saved. How can I use cookies then with this type of site?

I'm sorry if this is in the wrong section, but I didn't know which one to post in.

My suggestion would be to upload a non-framed site to your current web host and issue the cookies from your domain name.

Redirecting is the only option our web host offers. This is an opinion poll site so do you think it would work if we made sure people didnt vote more then once based on IP instead of Cookies?

mm, that wouldn't be a fail safe solution by any means. Dialup users are issued a new IP everytime they sign on line. Also, I had someone using AOL view my site, and every image/file on my site was requested by a diferent IP address. I had never heard or seen that before, but it checked out, b/c the 15 different IPs when put together made up one full visit (requested all files needed). Also, all of the requests were in a 2 second timeframe. IP's would be much easier to do, but it won't prevent users from voting more than once.

If users want to keep disconecting themselves from the internet and then reconecting just to vote for a poll once more then that is just more hits for me and a lot of trouble to go through for them. However, I don't want people to just be able to keep refreshing the page or simply keep voting easily as many times as they want. The bigger problem with IPs though is that everyone behind a network will have the same IP so only one person per office building/school etc. will be able to vote. Can you think of any way around this? What other information can an .asp file get besides IP?

Your host only offers redirection? That doesn't sound like much of a host. It sounds more like a...well, a redirection service.

There is really nothing personally identifiable that ASP (or to my knowledge any other language) get besides an IP (which in most cases is dynamic) and a cookie. My suggestion would be to find a host that doesn't make you redirect pages.

What I've decided to do is to finish the page on brinkster and then pay for a real host. Right now the page is hosted on a brinkster free account and the domain name registrar just forwards u there and masks the url.

Ahhhhh. Then what I would do is this: leave the tracking features until you get the real host and then stick them in at the end.

Well if what you want to do is keep people from voting, cookies aren't the best option either. Someone could just delete their cookies and vote again. I suggest you research a better way of tracking, say a combination of

    PATH_INFO
    LOGON_USER
    REMOTE_USER
    REMOTE_ADDR

Something specific to each user. Remember, you might have multiple computers / users accessing from one ip address, too.

Why not research what method is best?
