I'm kind of in-between sites now, and I'm trying to decide what I should build next. When you build websites that aren't for a client, where do you get ideas for what you should build a site about?

LOL... I wish I had MORE time to build sites for myself.
Some of my pet projects are:
- My home page (always a work in progress)
- "Advanced Web Content" help site (on major pause). Basically, it's intended to be a site like this with forums plus a whole reference section for advanced web content topics...
- "Cat Splat" game site... haven't even started, really. It's gonna be a game where you can kill cute little kitties with all sorts of mean looking weapons... flash based of course
Those are my only "active" projects... In the past I've done other sites, like "Insation", which was a musicians "match.com" sorta thing, where musicians could go to look for other musicians to form bands and stuff. Took that one down before I completed it.
Basically, I just do sites that follow my interests at the moment![]()
I don't do personal sites. Every time I do, they grow really popular and some *@*@#$*)@(#$@#$ special-interest group or whiner complains to the host or to me and the site gets shut down. I was even served with legal papers in late 1999 from a Christian fundamentalist group for having a Y2K-compliant spoof religion page on my humour site. So I don't bother.

I think I know what GAME's problem is with personal sites:
GAMES = Gets Assaulted Making Extracurricular Sites
Inspiration comes from all over. First i like to think of what i'm going to do the site about and what the content will be. Then i look around my nieghborhood and my city for things that relate to what i want. Eventually, i'll have compiled a rather large list. Then i try all the ideas in different ways in various graphics programs. Then i get a basic theme for my site.:classic:

i like border's bookstore. I sit in the coffee shop and look at art books, and design magazines.

Get ideas from what you good at or what you like. Content of the website is important.
