    I have a guy that posts profane things on my messageboard, I would like to get his I.P. and other info about him to confront him about it, I have seen sites before that when you visit them they tell you all this info about your comp, I know there has to be a simple way to log visitor information

    Most boards already track this information; if yours doesn't then you might want to consider upgrading to a more powerful system.

    What's the URL of your board?

    If your host supports PHP and MySQL, then check out http://www.invisionboard.com/ and http://www.phpbb.com/ , two good free ones. If your host doesn't support either then you're pretty much out of luck (there are also Perl and other possibilites but they're less common).

    If you need a host that supports PHP/MySQL, then check out the Hosting forum here.

    Geocities doesn't. If you absolutely have to go with a free host, try Lycos which I believe supports a rudimentary form of PHP and MySQL (hopefully enough to run phpBB or InvisionBoard).

    To check anyway, create a file called phpinfo.php and populate it with:
    PHP Code:
    <?
    phpinfo
    ();
    ?>
    If you see something that looks like http://www.turtletips.com/phpinfo.php then you're golden; if you see nothing or something else then you probably don't have PHP support.

    Remember you get what you pay for, though; you can even use http://www.godaddy.com/ and http://www.discount-hosting.com/ and run your site for less than $19/year (USD).
