What's wrong with this design?

I've been working on this new design, and it's coming along nicely. However, I just cannot take it from a design I like to a great design. Something "magic" is missing. Any help much appreciated.

Well the design is pretty clean and plain but It still looks good. :) If you want to jazz it up a bit you can add some gradients and some other effects. You should still keep the clean look. The top is a little cramped but It looks good.

You need a background of some sort... it looks a little to plain with the white.

Yeah, I agree with Fallout. You could stick all of your content into a nice rounded rectangle like you've got half-way down the page, and then give the rest of the site a nice, rich, darker background. A brown might match your color palette well.

Also maybe align text with grey boxes?

You have a nice clean layout, which makes it easy to read your content, but your site looks a bit plain and unattractive.

I think with a few graphics and maybe a background colour this site would look great

Im really sorry about that. I was drunk. I actually dont think its all that bad.

I think the google ads could be better placed as it is somewhat distracting.

Also the rollover color for the links in the nav shouldnt be such a contrast with the original color.

I like the rollovers that go blue to orange but not orange to blue. Maybe try orange to brown orange.

Theres other things but I think its all covered. Good work overall.

Thank you very much for the feedback. I took everything that was said, and in what must have been the first designer's de-block in months, I came up with a new layout:

It features a lot of things from the old design.

I know it still needs work, especially now that the 4-box navigation needs a slight colour change. Apart from that, comment away!
