Hey there, I just joined, I was hoping to get some feedback on what I did so far. I still have some work to do, but I have the basic concept down. It's almost 3am and I am getting tired, so I am hoping when I wake up I have a few replies with some suggestions. Note: I am not very graphic or html/coding advance. I know very basic html. I am not a graphics designer I am a photographer, so Iím not that great in Photoshop either for that type of stuff. I had a friend of mine make the layout for me, I coded the rest in Dream weaver. Again any replies are very appreciated!
    Thanks so much.

This is a nice looking, well laid out site, with one proviso; the full size photographs would look better if they were centered in the page. The one thing that really lets this site down though, in my opinion is the copy, it really does suffer from the most appaling spelling and grammar- get someone to proof read it for you. The other slightly disappointing thing is the number of photographs; there are just too few. I understand that your just setting out and that money is a serious issue for you, but this is a photography site and it needs more of your work to make shine. Good luck with finding a job and every success with this site and your photography.
    End of Line.

Thanks for the reply, yea typed all that up at about 2am, so it's not the worlds best grammar/spelling. I'll have to reread that later on or get someone to do it for me. I took your advice and centered the full page photographs. I know that it doesn't have many pictures, but I am not really giving people the link out other then for advice, and close family/friends. I won't start promoting the site until I have a decent amount of work on there. I just had to start somewhere. My question is should I just write coming soon for the photo/video parts? Or should I leave them with a small sample? What's better some or none? Also any other advice is very much so appreciated!

The most important thing, for me, is that links provide feedback when you hover over them. Or, rather, that buttons do. Links themselves are fine, but when you have buttons, feedback is nice. Look at doing some CSS rollovers, and at making the link *text* separate from the button image.

Also, watch out -- Think Different is probably copyrighted six ways from Sunday by Apple.

I'd say some is better than none, photo-wise, though :-)

Hey Shadowfiend I am not very html or graphic enabled, I knew only enough to be able to edit a .psd file of a link. I was wondering if you could make me the three images and explain in a little better detail how to go about adding the .css layouts to my pages.
... or anyone for that matter. I have uploaded my .psd file and my .index file.

PS: I emailed Apple and asked them about the Think Different, I await their response, but how can someone copy write two words? It's not like I took it from a banner they made you know?

Actually, Think Different isn't a copyright, it is a trademark.
And yes, you cannot use it on your website:
    http://www.apple.com/legal/trademark...rdparties.html

Look 1/2 way down and it specifically mentions "Think Different"

    8. Slogans and Taglines: You may not use or imitate an Apple slogan or tagline.
    For example: "Think different."

Oviously, you are not thinking different when it comes to promoting your product (by using a saying some other company had TM).
As for the site, I could probably go all day about what needs to be improved on the site. This is a bland, run of the mill PSD template and really no design or development has gone into it.
With that said, you can still make this site work for you (assuming all of your customers aren't true web developers).

Here is what you can do to make your site a little better:
    1) I understand the use of (or lack of) color. With the black and white angle, I always think that is a good look for a photography website. Your site uses that angle, but it is missing something. Mostly on the home page, maybe a use of a photo. Something to give it a bit of a design element.
    2) Content. If this is going to be a professional/business site. I have to say that having on your homepage as part of your content about your decision to make this a career instead of a hobby or thanking people for making this a dream come true, isn't really professional. If you want to put that kind of stuff on your site, then save it for the blog.
Your homepage should have a short description about your business, your philosophy when it comes to your work and your commitment to your customer. Not, that you hope to be up and running 100% by the fall of '06
    3) Blog. Why? Have a blog site that isn't linked to your site if you must have a blog. People will go to your site and use your services based on your portfolio......not because you bought ipanzica.com on June 29th.
    4) Pricing. I understand you aren't "open for business" as of yet........but you should have a "call or contact for pricing", not a long description of how you don't have pricing available.
    5) Links. The links (which I assume are a very light gray) that are mixed in with content on all of your pages........you cannot read them. They are too light.
    6) Projects. Your project page should have stuff you've done (weddings, family photos, etc). Not just an idea you have for a project (and most certainly not "I am not able to take photographs at this time". In this case, why even put the site up?
    7) It ends where it started. You obviously do not have a grasp on trademark and copyright law, so if you put a disclaimer on your website about copyright violations, you may want to link it to another page detailing what is and what isn't copyrighted. Especially with the Apple TM and you probably had some type of copyright from the PSD template you used.

I apologize for the length. Every once in awhile I see a site that has potential but is poorly put together.
There is a lot of little things to be done to this site, but I think if you pay attention to detail and content, you can have a better site than most of your competitors.

    Good luck......

planetgman, I want to say thank you very much for replying to the way you did. That's precisely what I needed. A good constructive criticism, and now I have a place to try to achieve. I took out the Think Different and left it blank. As for why have the site "Live" .. I just put that there because at the moment I am just working on something you know? No one really knows the link, and I am not promoting the business so no one who would be looking for work would see it unless I gave them the link. I have to reread your post again, and I will take everything into consideration. I am going to be doing some massive updates ...
My father wants to go to the Casino though .. so I have to go for now. I'll try to update the site tonight.
    Please keep the comments coming!

I actually think it looks substantially better without the `Think Different' there; the shape is more visible and very nice :-)

I am also a newbie but I certainly like beautiful good things. Your site is catching. For a photography site it gives your own ideal color and design. However, I think you should highlight it with some splash of color or insert some images. As in give it life if not all the pages, then the home page.
One thing I have learnt in a short time is people do not want to read stories if your site is meant to be a professional one. It takes experience to know where to draw the line that I am still learning. Morever, no matter how late you work, always proof read. My dad says it gives you an appearance of having made great effort to deliver something even if it is not your best.
All in all I do applaud you for trying in the first place with little or no html or graphic knowledge. So welcome to the world of learning everyday about Web Design.
