Here is the design for my personal site. It is all in Flash right now, but when it's done it will all be html and images.

I might add some Flash effects later on, to make it flashier, but it needs to be done in 4 hours, so this is pretty much what I am running with.

    1. There's a lot of text in images that would work just as well as text overlayed on top of background images.
    2. The footer text is way, way too dark, even if you want it to be subtle.
    3. The client login box looks out of place.
    4. If you want it to be professional, never, ever use free or home hosting, and especially not a free e-mail account. Get a domain instead for $3 or more, and some cheap hosting.
    5. If the portfolio is not available, don't show a link to it at all. Only when the portfolio is available should you have any mention of it.

Maybe its just because im used to the anonymity of the web but something odd strikes me about having your photo on every page of your site. The site is a bit dark for my tastes. I dont mind dark sites but maybe a bit more contrast, looks almost like your site is stuck in a crevice somewhere on the web because of it. I didnt even know where was text in the footer, I had to go back and check. And 'client login' dosent have to be on every page either.

Overall not a bad site, I consider it a winner just keep refining your style.

In reguards to the comment you made about using flash to make it flashier... If you are talking about making an animated spash screen, or button animations or anything like that, I urge you to reconsider. Unless you can truly do steller work in flash, or have a specific use for it, I would stay away from using it.

    1) I'll go ahead and change that, and possibly add rollovers. I'd really like a Flash detection Javascript that would load either flash buttons or html button based on plugins.
    2) Doing this on a laptop with an LCD screen, so my brightness might be a bit high. I'll try to view it on a CRT moniter.
    3) I added it to make my site seem to have more content. There is no way a client can log in, the script backing it just throw's an error message. Think it should be moved or recolored or both?
    4) The hosting isn't free, it's through bluehost - the Domain name is still 24 hours away from propagating. I guess I'll change from the Gmail account, though I really do like it.
    5) Portfolio should be up in a day or two.

I am playing with having the main screen be the only one to use that layout, then it would be the only one to have that picture. I really tried to offset the darkness with bright red and white, white text would do it but it seemed hard to read.

As for the flash, I wasn't thinking a Flash screen but maybe buttons with sounds and rollovers and an effect on the picture. On one hand, it seems bad to add Flash for the sake of adding it, but on the other, if I am advertising that I know Flash, shouldn't I use it on my own site?

Oh, one more thing: The reason for my picture on the site was two fold. First, I liked how it looked on template sites but thought stock art was a little cheesy, and secondly I wanted to convey the message, "here I am, a real person, standing behind my work". Anonymity might be good for BigTool69, but I want to seem trusted.

Keep in mind that you can keep using gmail... I use my gmail account to manage the account from my parents ISP, my school, two from, and one from work.
