Another website for me and a friend, redesigned recently using http://www.huddletogether.com/projects/lightbox2/ for the photos page which I quite like.

The unicycle pic didn't show up on the home page until I had been there a couple of times. I would also change the contact link from a mailto: to an actual form. Other than that, it looks alright.

Lightbox uses JavaScript, so there aren't many hints in the source code.

All you do is add the 3 <script... > lines between the <head> tags, and the <... rel="lightbox"> to the <a href... > tags.
    Code:
    <script type="text/javascript" src="js/prototype.js"></script>
    <script type="text/javascript" src="js/scriptaculous.js?load=effects"></script>
    <script type="text/javascript" src="js/lightbox.js"></script>...

    ...<a href="photos/photo33.jpg" rel="lightbox">
    <img src="photos/link33.jpg" alt="photo33" border="0"/></a>

If the JavaScript is correct, then it should run unless a user has disabled JavaScript.

No reason why that image shouldn't appear its just a banner image referenced in the CSS, incase the server was playing up or you were using a browser I haven't tested in. Cheers though
