    Hey guys,
I'm looking to redesign http://www.christopher-scott.org, and this is what im working with right now. It's actually coded (xhtml/css) but i want to get the layout right before porting it all to Textpattern (a CMS).

I also have a full size screenshot.

The main navigation links (blog, articles, portfolio) will have yellow underlines on mouse-over, and all of the rest will be orange, like the one on the right.

Anyway, let me know what you think.

    Thanks,
    Chris

I have to admit, I like the current one better. The orange on brown in the new design is a bit off...

The only problem I see directly on the current page is that the space is a bit cluttered near the bottom, but the upper space feels empty. Usually it's the upper area that's filled with interesting content... if I were a reader of your site, I'd hate scrolling down each time to view what's new.

I think I like the new one better. The layout of the second mock up is much better than the first. To me it just makes a little more sence. The only thing about the second one that seems kind of weird is that on the middle grey bar going across the screen you have smaller bars under the navigation and one for the content section. The nav looks good with the two level lines going on. The content section thought seems strange. Maybe try killing those 4 or 5 pixels on the grey so that the yellow and grey meet up? Or just the opposite, add some pixels to the yellow so that it matches up.

Old one looked individual... new one looks like any one of a myriad of template based blog sites.

I am not saying this is template based, just that it looks too much like those that are. Perhaps you need to be more creative in the way you design - remember, Google was "radical" when it first came online and did things differently in that it was minimal whereas others were very complex in design. Google is now accepted as one of the "benchmarks"... remember, YOU could be the benchmark in a year's time... be creative... "live your ideas" :-)

Please take this in the spirit in which it was offered... I appreciate that these comments could be seen as a "put down" which it isn't...

agreed the first looks better imo, think sean hit the nail on the head. 1st is very individual.

far better colors, if you are going to develop the new image the colors have to be addressed. dont get me wrong, it looks good, i just prefer the 1st.

hmm. well, i have to say, i wasn't at all ready for that. I really like the new layout, and it think it will work out rather well.

I've since written a blog, check it out: I feel a little like Jon Hicks

don't think anyone is say its bad, but the 1st design is really nice. i've taken a lot of inspirations from it myself.

why not improve the colors, and make it a bit more graphical liekt he 1st design and i'm sure it will be more widly accepted?

    just a suggestion:-)
