I am giving our band's website a needed facelift. So far it's just one page, but I don't want to spend time working on the rest of the site if there are glaring problems with the very first page.

There are some very minor errors in the XHTML and CSS that I will fix tonight.

As always, anyone giving legitimate criticism and/or suggestions will get positive reputation even if you tell me the site is crap. Just be sure that you can explain why you think it's crap.

Looks alright. The color scheme doesn't really scream pipe band though. It also failed validation (you are missing and alt="", and you have an &).

hmm scotland is really more of a red/tartan country (well the stereotypical tweeness of it is) i guess that if you're going for another scottish stereotype - clydsidistic (sp?) then red would go too - for the blood by the, before anybody gets offended - i was born and raised in glasgow!

Hey James ... long time no see! Ok ... here we go

Well .. it's not bad. It's pretty simple and clean. I would fix up a bit is the size of the text in the menu. It's pretty small ... just a few notches bigger would be great.

It's pretty plain ... I think it might be because I'm used to seeing band sites like this which I know most of those design wouldn't fly for a City Pipe Band but it's just missing a bit of ... I don't know ... the WOW factor maybe. I Pipe Band site could look cool too with a bit of better color use and some spices.

It has your style Are you in that pic?

I'm in the big picture on the live site. I'm second from the left in the front row.

Thanks for the comments Karinne. I guess I need to ditch "my style" for this project and attempt something different. I'm thinking that I might take that banner image and move it from the container div into the body div and expand it. Then I could use some good tranparency effects to overlay the container div with content in it; similar to the Saskia website on that gallery site you posted.

Designing government websites is a far cry from designing a site with "WOW".

Nice, clean, simple. Definitely nothing glaringly wrong with the design that I could see. The links could be bigger like karinne said. The homepage seems a little dull. The text on the homepage could be a little more scannable. Most internet users scan instead of reading, so maybe break up the wall of text with some headers, some emphasized text, and maybe another picture or two.

    nice job though

i agree witht he bigger links on the left. not by much, a tad bigger would improve the readability.

the grey bg is very dull. sure you could have a nice gradient or pattern to jazz up the look. also i would suggest haveing the text in the header as an image then using image replacment techniques for SEO. when you re-size the text the site works fine apart from the heaer which gets messed up.

clean look and code again, but not the most visually appealing to me. very funtional:-)
