A friend and I recently completed a PHP coded website, wildwooddoowop.com. It is about the Doo Wop architecture in Wildwood, New Jersey (5 minutes from my home). Wildwood is a summer resort town, containing loads of Doo Wop architecture from the 40's 50's and 60's. Once registered and approved, users can contribute content and photos. We created the site to catalog and preserve the architecture since many buildings are being torn down and becoming condos.

The site incorporates: PHP, MySQL, Sessions, Wordpress, phpAlbum, a custom interactive Google Map, a custom Google Earth kml file, custom XML feeds, and del.icio.us.

I would appreciate your opinions of the site. (good, bad, or indifferent)

Good - I think it's a unique site with a lot to offer. I like the mouseover images you've used on the left menu.

Not so good - The layout is very boxy and the footer and clip art used at the top aren't very attractive IMO. Also, I think there are too many colors included in the layout making it very busy and overwhelming. I hope I've been helpful.

Thanks for your input, beachkitty85. I agree with the site being too boxy, that is something we will surely have to improve. As for the choice of colors, the intent was to be kitschy like the 50's & 60's Doo Wop architecture was. Was your comment on the colors for any one page, or the overall use of differnt colors on different pages? Thank you for pointing out the images, I will try to produce some higher quality style to the header & footer.

    Thanks,
    Corey

The colors on the home page are what I'm referring to. Mainly, I don't like the squiggly background. It's not the background in particular, but how it clashes with the other colors. I think you should either go with a pinkish or purplish bg to match the rest of the site or incorporate some of the colors from the bg into the rest of the site. I don't know if that came out completely clear or not. Basically, I just think the colors don't match.

Thanks again, I will surely look into better matching or replacing the backgrounds, they are actually samples of formica boomerang countertops.
