    hey guys,

if you have the time critique http://12.228.220.146/lrc/ it's a soon to be running club site. there's no content as of now. i'd appreciate it if you guys would take a look at the general design, colors, and banners at the top (PHP reads the headers dir then sets a maximum for rand() then pulls the headers out at random... ). let me know what you think i cna do to make it better. thanks,
    richard.

Interesting design. The banner is a little tall, and on the nav below, the words "athletes" and "picture" are hard to read because their is a white stripe behind those words. Maybe darkening the background behind the nav would make that easier to read.

Also, I waited long enough to say it, but what's up with the right alignment?! I know it's different and different is cool, but not this different, IMO. It just looks plain weird! There's too much waisted space on the left side of my screen. Call me old fashioned I guess.

Other than that, no major problems yet. What color are you planning on making most of the text? The light blue bg you have is a little to light for ALL of the text to be white. I think that'd be hard to read, because of the lack of contrast.

i havent gotten a chance to mess around with text colors yet, because i havent really added any content. yeah with some of the banners the nav is hard to read, but with most of them i darkened them up a little on the bottom part anyway. ill also give that center alignment a shot, havent even checked that out yet.

Don't change a thing !!! I usually will be the first to jump on the usability bandwagon and complain about things like justification, text contrast, and things like that, but your site is unique, pretty, elegant, and COOL !! I love it !! I even like the right justification (although I would probably add a "Jacquard" background image to the body so the left doesn't look so empty). Also, get more banner images so you have a unique one for each page. I love the colors !!! The text is inverted and low-contrast, but is suprisingly easy to read! Great work!

Here, I've attached an HTML file with an idea of what you can do to augment the right justification a little. I valigned the content to the middle and added a lighter shade (Jacquard style) of the background color on the left.

    What do you think?

Okay, since no one else will likely ask this: who's Jack Card and why's transio so big on his style?

As far as the right side goes, normally I don't like sites like this but this one seems to work for some reason. I think if you moved it about 30 pixels over to the left (just enough so that there's more white space on the right and less on the left), then you'll have it. The only other (very minor) thing I'd add is some CSS mouseovers for your menu links (this would depend on your random header though) Everything else I'd leave alone. I don't know why...this site is just plain sexy.

game... have no idea as to who jack card is or why transio is so big on his style. no offense or anything transio, but that style doesn't work well with this layout (i dont think). thanks a lot for showing interest and taking time though. i would have never thought of that look. game i took your advice and added 30 pix to the left and it didnt look right, but 25 looked better than what i had before. i added a simple background... very subtle, but noticable. let me know what you think. and thanks a lot for the input guys.

I didn't realize before that the site has rotating banners on the top. I think that add's a nice dynamic effect to the site. Here's my thoughts on a few of the banners:

I like the one with the runner's names and times on the right.

There is one that's really blurry that I'm not such a fan of (the old fashioned thing again?).

The one with the word "running" laid over the banner is a little hard to see through the word "running". Maybe making the text a little more transparent would help?

The one with the people running upside down I think it a nice picture, but I think it would look nicer if the people were running right side up!

Again, these are just my opinions, and as I was the only one that didn't like your right justification, take them for what they're worth
