This is my first post, here goes nothing....

I've been tinkering with web sites for a while now and have recently set up a Ltd company to turn my hobby into something more. My portfolio is relatively small at present as I try to gain more customers and more experience.

I'm a bit nervous about posting on here as I'm fairly happy with my efforts so far but I would love any feedback. Please be as critical as possible as lets face it, that's the only way to improve.

That's the first thing I noticed... I would scrap it as well.

The graphics loaded smoothly and everything else I saw was nice.

Thanks for the comments... I guess the cross cursor isn't very popular then?

It wouldn't be so bad if it appeared when you hovered over an actual link. I wouldn't recommend using the cross for a business website though.

I agree about the cursor. Also, the rounded edges look very pixelated. I don't know what graphic program you used, but I typically use Fireworks for small details like that and it works great. Other than those two points, I love it. The colors are unique and the design is appealing.

I have now removed the cursor and will be very wary of using it on further projects - Thanks for all your comments

Rule #1 in web design: Don't do something just because you can.
Note on code: If I give code, please note that it is simply sample code to demonstrate an effect. It is not meant to be used as-is; that is the programmer's job. I am not responsible to give you support or be held liable for anything that happens when using my code.

Speaking of "because we can" and "why not?" ...what's the point of the calendar?

You could have put thumbnails of your project websites if it were not for the calendar. Consequently the calendar proves a distraction from the fact you have portfolio links. I think, were you to actually test with users, the number to didn't know you have links to portfolio pieces on the home page would shock you.

    Retro indeed.

This post has proved very useful indeed, it's amazing when you spend so much time on a project and become a little blinded by it. Thumbnails in place of the calendar is such a simple idea, I really don't know why i didn't think of it. I used the calendar simply to fill a bit of white space, thumbnails will look much better.... thanks for the advice.
