A while ago, A student made my company a website. Its simple, like I asked, but like you always hear... he disappeared and now Im left with a site with no clue how to update it.

    Heres the deal..

I have a Macbook Pro with 10.5 leopard
I dont have any web design software
although I did just download smultron for mac. Not sure what this even is.
My site is hosted in yahoo. I can go into the control panel/file manager and see all the code, I cut out some of it and paste links in from photobucket and nothing happens. What am I doing wrong?

there is a lot about my site I want changed but I need some serious help or suggestions. Im a fast learner, but as of now, I am a begginer starting from scratch.

Can you edit a site by just logging into your yahoo account? Seems to me like Im missing something.

I have large pictures I want on the site, (main page on my site) and it has a scroll bar that I hate and I think looks very unprofessional.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    -Steven

Your page uses frames, that is where the scrollbar comes from. Frames introduction.

You should be able to login to your control panel and make changes to your files.

You cannot just paste links into a document, you have to put them in an <a> tag. HTML links.

    What problems are you having?

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply. I know what you mean by "you cant just cut and paste"... I think I was doing it the right way, because sometimes it worked and other times it wont. I would just go into the script or code on my control panel, go to "home" and find the link of the picture and I would cut it out, and paste my new link in from photobucket. It worked once, then everytime I tried to do that again it wouldnt. I even deleted the main picture from photobucket, just to see if my site would go blank, and it still is on there. I dont even know how its still there. Where is it coming from?

Im sure I sound completely rediculous about this. Im a denim jean designer and a full time autobody painter so I know nothing about this. I just really would like to learn so I can keep my business moving along with out having to depend on people.

    any pointers will help.

    Things Im trying to accomplish,

Get rid of the scroll bar, change up the layout a bit, delete the photos at the bottom of the page and add new ones. I have all new photos to put on there... www.esefdenim.blogspot.com

Thank you everyone for your patience with me.

    take care

    Steve

    1) The image is probably being loaded from your computers cache. Browsers store documents so that if you revisit a page it loads faster.

    2) If you want to change the images that are listed in a row, open up your main.html file and you will see a section of code like:
    HTML Code:
              <tr>
                <td><a href="images/gallery/ori/ori_jean01.jpg"><img src="images/gallery/ori/ori_jean01_thumb.jpg" width="72" height="72"></a></td>
                <td><a href="images/gallery/ori/ori_jean03.jpg"><img src="images/gallery/ori/ori_jean03_thumb.jpg" width="72" height="72"></a></td>
                <td><a href="images/gallery/ori/ori_jean04.jpg"><img src="images/gallery/ori/ori_jean04_thumb.jpg" width="72" height="72"></a></td>

                <td><a href="images/gallery/ori/ori_jean05.jpg"><img src="images/gallery/ori/ori_jean05_thumb.jpg" width="72" height="72"></a></td>
                <td><a href="images/gallery/ori/ori_jean06.jpg"><img src="images/gallery/ori/ori_jean06_thumb.jpg" width="72" height="72"></a></td>
                <td><a href="images/gallery/ori/ori_jean07.jpg"><img src="images/gallery/ori/ori_jean07_thumb.jpg" width="72" height="72"></a></td>
                <td><a href="images/gallery/ori/ori_jean08.jpg"><img src="images/gallery/ori/ori_jean08_thumb.jpg" width="72" height="72"></a></td>
                <td><a href="images/gallery/ori/ori_jean09.jpg"><img src="images/gallery/ori/ori_jean09_thumb.jpg" alt="." width="72" height="72"></a></td>
                <td><a href="images/gallery/ori/ori_jean10.jpg"><img src="images/gallery/ori/ori_jean10_thumb.jpg" width="72" height="72"></a></td>
                <td><a href="images/gallery/sky/sky_jean01.jpg"><img src="images/gallery/sky/sky_jean01_thumb.jpg" width="72" height="72"></a></td>
                <td><a href="images/gallery/sky/sky_jean09.jpg"><img src="images/gallery/sky/sky_jean09_thumb.jpg" width="72" height="72"></a></td>
                <td><a href="images/gallery/sky/sky_jean10.jpg"><img src="images/gallery/sky/sky_jean10_thumb.jpg" width="72" height="72"></a></td>

              </tr>
That is what specifies what images to display. You would delete/alter that to match your new images.

Everyone is a beginner at some point, I would suggest looking for some tutorials and/or books.

    http://www.w3schools.com is good.

Thank you very much. You'll have to check out the site now. I put all new pictures down the bottom of the site.

Also.. is there any where in this code that I can delete the scroll bar on my main page? I hate the scroll bar. I just want the picture to be large, and for the little thumb nails to be further down at the bottom of the page.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

I basically just want the scroll bar to be on the far side of the entire site, just like any website youd go to. I dont want it to be in the middle of the page. Its just ugly. And I hate the fact that its blue as well. Our design is very minimalist and classic, so we like our website to be that way as well. All black and white with nice photos.

Trying very hard to accomplish this.

    THanks everyone!

I'm sorry, but I suggest you get a real designer and do it from there. That is very messy code, probably the reason why nobody has given you a straightforward solution to remove the scrollbar is because that code is simply difficult to break up. I see a couple empty iframes, a load of spacers...

Well, as a whole, I suggest you to find yourself a designer who knows his chops.
Note on code: If I give code, please note that it is simply sample code to demonstrate an effect. It is not meant to be used as-is; that is the programmer's job. I am not responsible to give you support or be held liable for anything that happens when using my code.

I'm with Steax, hire someone new. Explain exactly what you want them to do, and go from there.

For someone here to tell you how to do exactly what you want to do would take quite some time, judging by the code soup you posted up there.

I have to agree with the other guys. It will be much better for you to get a new website that you can use, than trying to become a web designer, just to update the current one, which isn't that great as it is.

I suggest asking about a Content Management System like Joomla which is an open source CMS. A designer could either create a custom template or edit a free one to your requirements and train you to add/edit content, which is pretty simple once the site is set up.

    hope you come right.
