Im debating on making a site for designers. This site will consist of hopefully millions of images. as well as allow people to search though them and add them.

Now the point of this is for people looking for things for their pojects, lets say you are looking for a picture of a stop sign, but you need it on the fly. YOu can type into the search box stop sign and blam it come sup with 10-20 matches, and you choose the best matching stop sign for your poject, you edit out any background on it and you can use it for oyu rproject. This would help designers everywhere and it would also encurage designers to share the iomages they had to obtaim manualy.

Of course the image base would start out small and utterly useless, but as people add it will grow in use and eventualy become a very very useful tool.

Do you guys think this is a good idea, or has any chance of sucess.

Also would you guys be willing to submit images, and if so about how many do you think?

There are two types of image banks: free ones and paid ones. As you can imagine, paid image banks usually have better quality and variatey, but they are paid. Are you planning on making a bank of free images, or a paid service?

If you're planning on making a paid service, there are a good number of them already out there, with large libraries already. If you are going to make a bank of free images, then the quality of the images will make or break it. Some photographers may not upload their images to your site though without compensation.

Here is a thread that has a list of stock photography sites, most of which are free. If you can create a quality, free resource, I think it has a chance. The hard part though is quality.

it will be free, and deviant art is nothing like what im talking about. Diviant art is haring of art works you have done. what im talking about is not sharing your art, but sharing your random images that people can use bits and pieces of and providing many search words fo rit so that people cna search for it.

For example im making a logo that is for stop and Go cafe, they said they want a stopsign in it then a green light.

For this example you would goto the image bace type in stop sign
it would come up with a list of images, you find the one best suited for your needs, then you would do the same for the green light.

you would then use your fave graphics program and make siad logo.

It would be a free service to help desingers who want to find the images that actualy help them. without spending hours i might add. Another thing about deviant art is it takes hours to find anythign even appeling. but as far as i kwo they dont have a regular image base but instead things for wallpapers and skins

exactly, deviantart has a massive collection of stock photos. Try typing in "stop sign" into their search box. They have many sections - each searchable. I'm just saying, reinventing the wheel and selling it to man is really hard.

hmm i did not know it already had such a thing, prolly cuase it has soo much else that i never noticed it.

Well maybe what the net needs is a site that is solely for this purpose, similar to googles soley search engine and such. It seems that sites that simply do the one job they have well are the ones that get popular and are most often used.
