I have created a portfolio site which leans towards the creative. I got a lttle tired of the standard layout. On show is my work from New Media to Illustrations.
I hope you like and please feel free to give feedback on my work or the site design.
Some flash work you may notice is not complete...this is still to come.

Well...since it is creative and I'm not by nature, I'm probably the wrong person to be giving an opinion, but what the hell...

Overall, I think it's a nicely designed site. The colours are nice for browny-beigy kind of colours and the layout is easy enough to figure out. My major beef with it is that I can't turn the sound off. That song gets extremely annoying after about a minute. Not only that, it interrupts Jimmy. And as all the regulars here know, you never interrupt my Jimmy listening. That's just not allowed.

Nice site, the graphics are really well done, but from a usability standpoint there are a few things I see.

It took me a while to figure out how to turn the music off. I'm also not a fan of music on webpages.

Your text is black and the bg color is dark, making your text slightly hard to read. I like the color scheme, it's just a little hard to read.

Other than that, looks pretty cool, and the artwork in the galleries is awesome!

    Cheers

Thanks for the opinions guys, I need those things you pointed out to be a bit more obvious. I want some sort background music but perhaps something a little more subtle. I'll make the little sound box a bit more obvious so I don't interupt Jimmy.

I will look at altering the style sheet so the text is a little more readable.

I understand the usability side of things is not perfect but like I said I just was looking at being creative and was probably hoping those links at the top would be obvious enough.

Thanks again, will make some updates and come back.

    Regards Bruce

I have introduced a new front page to give the user a little more idea where they are.

yeah i found the sound box after a while and the music ended after a while. make the sound box more obvious. also, you really need to have a viewable stop and play button set. make them obvious. very nice design. i need to start experimenting with some of your techniques. i like that i understand how to make what you designed. I should try some of those things out.

    edit:
what program did you use to make the music?

Biggest problem with your site is the navigation. It leans WAY towards the creative. Concrete thinkers (who make up 80% of our population, and close to 100% of decision-making buyers) would have a really difficult time figuring it out, and would leave.

Nice site to look at. Awful site for selling.

    Cool,
I understand the criticisms and do intend to fix them indeed. Its all on my list...;0)

But I might add my whole idea was to make something non-template. I got tired of designing for the restrictions of functionality. I was hoping I might be able to draw on the imagination of the user. Have them think about what they are doing instead of the usual navigation.

I will probably design a site more formal and functional to mirror this one which draws on the same information. One which I can sell my services...;0)

    Cheers For the comments

Bruce, cool deal. Like I said, it's creative and nice to look at. It's always good to experiment with things - great way to learn new stuff and invent theories and test out market feedback !!
