    Hi,

I am about to launch a new site I have set up: http://www.betcalculate.com/beta/index.php

I still have to trim the CSS and get it working in IE. At the moment it's all over the place in IE but looks perfect in Firefox so please review it in that browser for the time being.

I'm looking for feedback on the general design, colours and functionality of the website. The purpose of the site is to provide a bet calculator tool for punters who may be placing multiple, complicated bets on sports or whatever.

    Thanks in advance.

I don't get it. Is this for horse racing?

It's a calculator for any type of sports betting. The links on the left are all the different types of bet you can place then my app does all the calculations for you as some large bets are a combination of selections and are very difficult to calculate manually. The different terms would only really make sense to people familiar with betting but thats who will be using it. In case of confusion, the bets are explained at the bottom.

    Thanks for the feedback.

Ok, well in that case, it looks pretty nice... can't really comment on the functionality, because I don't get it at all. :-D One suggestion is that you may want to reconsider all the select boxes for data entry. Not sure of a suggestion, but see if you can figure out something that'll make entering a large amount of info easier on your users. It doesn't seem bad as it is. Just a little overwhelming when you have 30 inputs on a page. :-D

Thanks for the feedback. Think I'll have a look at the inout method. To calculate a bet they only need to enter the 'odd's fileds though, the other select boxes etc are options that might apply to their bet under certain conditions. For example "dead heat" means if 2 horses cross the line at exactly the same time and the race is ruled as a draw, it effects the return they would get on their stake.

How do you think the page looks on initial load and also, how is the loading time? Would it be better to have some intro text in the white area?

Ok, so I've looked through it a bit more. I really think it's a great idea, but in the wrong context. This should be an iPhone app. That way, people could take it with them if they go to a race.

I would agree with you there and I think that will be the next step I take with it. There are already some iPhone apps that do this but they are fairly basic. I am going to make an iPhone/smartphone version of the website next for viewing in a phone browser and then eventually put it into an app.
