I've been lurking here for a little while.... I registered the name "macguru" a while ago, but I like this one better.

Regardless, my dilemma is one with overall design.

I have decided on a 50's retro-diner-type theme for my site, I found a nice font to make a logo (view the logo here ).

Anyways, I am thinking on a red and metallic silver color scheme, making the images look shiny and purty . What suggestions do you have for a color scheme and also, does anyone have example graphics of a retro diner or anything I could look off of? Common styles of the 50's would also help. Basically I'm looking for ideas of styles to incorporate into my theme. (I've looked at electrolux classic vacuums, if anyone can give other examples of popular styles from the 50's I'd be grateful.)

Links, pictures, whatever. I just need the help because I sure as heck didn't experience the 50's... too young .

Well if your set on keeping it the way it is then you should put some cell padding in the tables to that the text isnt mashed up against the dotted black line

The site he (she?) posted is just to show the font he was intending on using in a logo. The font looks retro, but it's a little rough around the edges.

As far as retro designs go, one thing that came to mind is Krispy Kreme (go ahead, laugh). I'm from MA, and they just opened one here after opening one near me at school 6 months ago. They seem to have a retro theme going, with the polka dots and such. Their website isn't totally retro, but it may lead to an idea or two from browsing it.

I'm not getting a retro feel from that font. I like spluf's suggestion about the krispy kreme logo. I'd check out some of those 50's compilation cd covers too. Also try out www.fontdiner.com they've got some pretty good lookin' retro fonts.
