I built this website using Wordpress theme. As a 66 year old it was quite an adventure. I wanted to create a clean uncluttered look.

Good try. Your website is definitely clean and uncluttered. However, you want a website's appearance to reflect the purpose for which it was designed, and I don't really see this as the sort of look a restaurant website would have. You want a visitor to enter your site and experience a desire to actually go to the restaurant and try out all the delicious food offered.

You can achieve this, I think, just by adding more background colour, and more mouth-watering images of the food on the menu ... especially on the home page ... and still keep the cleanness and uncluttered appearance you have right now. Right now it seems too sanitized.

Your logo looks pretty clean. Btw., Try to add few more wp widgets on right sidebar.
Good luck with your Cooking site

I would agree with the need for background. You might want to experiment with different background effects for the content, header, and page areas. A great website to visit for outstanding free backgrounds is Desktop Nexus Wallpapers - Wallpaper, Desktop Wallpapers, Computer Backgrounds .

    Good start!

    Thanks highcountry

Interesting comment re background. I like the feel of white space and the other thing that frightens me off about background graphics is that I haven't worked out how to set logos etc with transparent areas so they show up on a background as rectangles of white with the logo inside the rectangle. So much to learn !!
Very glad I found this site.

Use this site as a learning experience ... try different things to see what works. If you want a logo with a transparent background and you have Photoshop, you can save the image as a .png image instead of a .jpg.

By the way, you are never too old to learn new things in this field ... I started when I was over 50.

I think the logo could be tweaked a bit, perhaps it would worked better in a cartoon style rather then photo?

Website design is good. Font colors are not uniform when navigating from one page to other page. May be you can check the uniformity. All the best.

Nice and Clean, good job. As a little adjustmennt maybe widen the menu bar to the width of the page, it will also spread a little the menu items (buttons), maybe use capitol letters at the begining of each menu item ( Home, Menu, Wines... )

P.S. What did you use for home page slideshow ?
