A while ago, I started working on a website for the engineering tech department at my school. I finished most of it and then decided to go back and clean up all of my messy HTML and CSS coding because I started building this website while learning those techniques. I also decided to change a few things so it would be easier to update/maintain.

As I was planning on doing this, A LOT of people started commenting that the website was too dark and somewhat boring. Since I have to rebuild the website anyways, I have decided to fix the design. I have added more color into the design and changed the background to make it less dark.

Here is the link to the current design:
    http://www.my-testing-area.netne.net/

Please compare the current design to the new design and tell me what you think.

Here are a few things you may want to know about the new design:
    1. Because the new design is being presented as an image, I have decided to simulate what it would be like to use the navigation. For the horizontal nav, you will see that when you "would" scroll over it, the words turn orange and an orange underline appears. On the left and footer navigation, the links will have an opacity of 50%. When you hover over them, they would change to 100% opacity.
    2. I plan on setting up a BASIC flash video introducing the program and showing off a few images. I will make sure it's small to save people loading time.

I know the design isn't perfectly aligned, but this template should give you the gist of what I'm going for.
Please give me any tip/ideas that you may have.

It looks really good! Other than the font you use. I hate that font.

Thanks. I'll change the font and see what it looks like. Do you have any suggestions for fonts?

I really like the new look man, your skills in webdesign have very much so improved since you started. Well done.

Try using tahoma at 0.8em, maybe that will help.

Yep - the new look is a definite improvement!

Just one thing, though - do you really need to use Flash or could you get the effect you want with javascript?

I don't know javascript, so I have decided to side with flash. This website will also be entered into a regional, state, and then national competition, so I want to be able to say I created all of the scripts, graphics, and designs. That is why I'm not using any free online scripts.

I'll start coding the website. The next time you guys see this website, it will be for a full website review. :bounce:

DjMangee would you care to elaborate a bit more with a possible solution to the issue you noticed?

i feel like the website was designed in 1990s when websites lack alot of shapes and color textures.

Doesn't look too great. It feels really outdated, something out of 1999.
