    Hi,

I'm a graphic designer, mostly self-taught, still learning. This is my first portfolio site, http://maiakennedy.weebly.com/. Looking for opinions and suggestions.

    Thanks!
    Maia

    Hello Maia,
Welcome to the community. First and foremost this is just an introduction section not a spot to ask people for opinions and on top of that you aren't allowed to post links until you have reached 25 posts which helps eliminate forum spam or people who aren't going to stay and help the community thrive and grow.
But besides that, welcome. If you ever want to have the full potential of reaching customers you will want to move away from a weebly site and venture out and make your own on your own domain and host.

    Hi,
Really sorry. I looked quickly at the Global Forum Rules, but didn't see that one. So, I need to reply to other people's posts at least 25 times, before I can post a link to my website? Can those posts be in multiple forums, i.e. web design, photoshop, etc.? Also, I noticed that other posts have links to their site in the upper right-hand corner, instead of in the body of the message. How do I do that?

    Thanks
    M.

    Hey Maia,
Yes you will need to post 25 times on other posts or even make your own posts. Just don't post to post though, because that is consider spam posting to get your post count high enough to be able to post links.
The right hand thumbnail link is in the review section and I think it only shows when you start a review my site thread.

Hi - I've moved this thread to the appropriate forum.

@Fireproofgfx - you've explained the rules well - I'm going to paraphrase you when I need to notify a new member!

Thanks AlphaMare I use to be an Admin on a graphics forum and we had to deal with this the most when new members.

    Maia,

You should've asked us for a review only after you had more info up. The site currently is pretty barren.

One major complaint: your menu looks messed up. It's spanning 2 rows and the second row is cut off.

Also, since you're a graphic designer, I think you should google 'portfolio websites.' Lots of web design authors collect pictures of sites that look awesome. Great place to find ideas.

    1. Here are the Forum Rules, they are also located at the bottom of every webpage in WDF...
    2. You can create new threads asking for help (not spam just to get your postings up) or reply to other users posts with helpful tips and reviews, that kinda thing. We're hot on spam and don't like it within WDF.
    3. I am presuming you mean the "ratings and reviews" section of the site? When you create the thread, you can put the url to your site in a box at the top. *just so you know for future*

Boring stuff out of the way, lets get onto the review ^^.

I do agree with RDes, there needs to be some text content within the site, a page like "about me" or something similar. Pictures are great, but clients will want to know more about you as a person before they decide to use you.

I personally think you need a few more colors in your scheme. Its a little bland at the moment.

Agreed with Fireproof. Having your own domain shows professionalism and looks good on business cards instead of *yourcompany*.*freedomainname*.com or equivalent.

I presume you are more of a designer rather than coder? In this field it is good to know both, although knowing both will take a lil while to learn, it will help in the long run.

A good couple of sites to get you started with ideas etc.

www.templatemonster.com, <!-- its a good idea to see what others have and combine different ideas -->
www.noupe.com <!-- Fantastic resource for webdesigners and graphic designers -->
www.w3schools.com <!-- Great teaching place for new coders -->

    Hope this helps.
