hello guys, I am new here, I started learning css in my spare time during the summer and created a website using joomla, created the template on my own, I know I should buy a professional one but I like the flexibility of creating my own template, and also its a learning experience

I have been improving, believe it or not the website was in bad shape compared to how it is now, but I have reached my limits, in order to improve I need honest critisicm, I have posted on one or two other sites before and the comments helped me improve my knowledge as well as my site

now I need another push as I dont know were to go from here

the site is aimed at having articles on the main page, mainly sports, as well as a forum for discussion and some other software which is secondary

what I need to know is how to move forward, I want to create a professional looking website which will draw people and one I can pitch to potential advertisers, obviously I either lack imagination or experience, I need people to tell me were the wicknesses are in the design, there is not much content on the main page put pay no attention, it should look more full once I start adding content on a daily basis

    I appreciate any advice

Chris you could always translate it lol..

As for the design I am not a big fan of reviewing a template because its just a template and I am sure that same template has been reviewed 100 times everywhere else so why waste my time. But I would say you should try using 1 or 2 fonts; right now you have you Header font, Logo Font, then your sections graphic fonts, Dr. Bet has totally different fonts altogether.

Actually, he said he created the template himself, and if that is so, it does deserve a review.
    So:
    • don't like the logo font - looks childish and not professional. Try a shadow-type font, or one that looks like a sports team might use it on their jerseys. (since this is an image file, suggested fonts available in Photoshop are - Bruce, Chisel, Fritz, Genuine (italic), Great Relief, or Ultra Shadow (these last two are good shadow fonts). Or just use a really good, plain sans-serif font like Lucida Sans italic, Maximo, or Phenster.
    • keep your headers for the sidebar sections in the same font, whatever one you choose. It does not have to be the same as the logo font.
    • make your link colours match the blue in the logo and the login, register, and balance buttons. It doesn't matter which blue you choose, but make it match - consistent design gives a more polished and professional look.
    • keep your link styling the same. In the sidebar the links turn black when the mouse moves over them - this does not happen in the item title.
    • it is probably difficult to find fonts that render the Greek alphabet well - the one you are using does it well, but could stand to be a bit larger - try 1.2em.
    • the site is very edgy and powerful in black and white - try to keep this theme throughout. Change the home icon for a black and white one, and find a different image for the footer - the green grass clashes with the rest of the site.

All-in-all, I think this is a very decent effort for a first try. Using the k2 extensions adds rather than distracts, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it develops.

My bad, I just opened the site and reviewed it with out reading the post itself. I looked at the source code and saw several template references and so I assumed it was another template. With that said I am sorry for jumping to conclusions with out reading the main post.
