    Hi Guys,

As a developer my design skills are definately lacking, while I have some downtime I really want to design my own portfolio site, rather than using a basic template and developing that further (previous post on this).

So basically I've started building my own design and I'll like a little feedback on what you think at this early stage.

Thats it really, thanks for your time to read this post.

    Neil

    Hi looking good...

for me the footer (your black area gives that impression) should be a summary + have quick and easy contact and nav links... IE not have news in it...

Not a great fan of navigation on the right hand side...

Wow this is pretty darn good for your first attempt (if it is your first). The only thing I would change is maybe make bold 3d text on your home page a little smaller. It gives the site a cluttered like effect (IMHO)

its my first genuine attempt at designing.

Fair enough with the 3d text, the shadows an issue for IE regardless.

    Thanks for your feedback!

Also your website almost doesn't fit on smaller screens. For example right now im using an old computer at my school which a resolution of 1024 x 768. Your text touches the sides of the browser making it look too big for it. I would make sure that there is at least 10 - 20 pixel padding between everything and the browser. The smaller box screen resolution may be dying out but it's still here for the time being. You have to take it into account.

I've transfered the test design to the actual site now, but still not fully happy with the design to be honest.

For starters the body background image will have to strech depending on the content - I think a solid color works better, something like steelblue.

I might take the feedback onboard and reduce the footer considerably, and I dont like the service or portfolio page - Right I'm changing it all!

Thanks for feedback guys, much appreciated
