I have been reading lots of articles lately about skeuomorphism, why people like it and why other hate is.
I have a dilemna. I have a personal website which some might consider as being skeuomorphic. I spent lots of time on it and thoughout what I read I get the feeling it could be perceived as outdated.
On the other hand i like minimalism (I'm a Windows Phone user) and so I came up with a new design:
But then are there way too many graphics in the first (current) version of my personal website ? Is that a problem ? After all, it is a relatively small and readable website so should I care ?
I guess my problem is that I like both designs but I need some external point of view. Would you be likely to tell me what you think
    Thank you very much

I have absolutely no clue what skeumorphism is, but I like the new design better just because I see content on the home page and can start reading right away.

A skeuomorph is “an object or feature which imitates the design of a similar artefact in another material”. Lightbulbs shaped like the flame from a candle, marble or wood grain patterns printed on linoleum, those useless tiny handles you find on some bottles of maple syrup. Things that are ornamental.

Skeuomorphism - or a skeuomorphic UI - refers to the overall graphical style of an interface. If done right, things look and behave the same way as the real-life object they are based upon.

    Quoted from here:
Good design should never say "Look at me!"
It should say "Look at this." ~ David Craib ~ my current site . . ~ my email

If you feel that someone's post helped you fix your problem, answered your question, or just made you feel better, feel free to "Like" their post. The "Like" link is at the bottom right of each post, along side the "reply" link. And if you are being helped here, try to help someone else - pass it on!

Both designs work well and there's nothing wrong with either imo - I think it just comes down to personal taste.
I like the original design best, apart from the homepage which I think needs some content other than just links on it. The new design looks a little too plain to me, although many people will prefer that.

I realise that this is probably of no help at all to you, sorry about that
