Hello - I'm brand new here, but have been designing sites since '96. Please check out: Lite-House.com . Its the company I work for and I created/designed the entire site. Please let me know how user friendly you think it is.

    Thanks...

good design- well thought out and not too much text neatly split up with images - the only thing I don't like is the text overlaps the image on your tech support ad top right of the hjme page

I like that shade of orange you have on the left side. Reminds me of a creamsicle... hehe

Nice design, although I'm not sure about the orange color. One thing I am sure of is that I dont like the same color text on the same color bg (orange nav links on orange bg). The tech support graphic also looks like it's jammed up there in the banner. Make it smaller and keep it on the right, to give the lighthouse image some more room. That's just my two cents, nice site overall.

    Thanks for the input:

    1. What's the ?source=WebDesignForums for ?
We have to track every hit... its company policy. Wherever the link is displayed we have to identify a source. So when I posted the link here I had to include a source. That's all.

    2. We do the orange color because it is Sylvania's primary color - since we stock primarily Sylvania bulbs we decided to use it as our company colors as well.

What color would you suggest using over the orange background? I personally like using different shades of a color in designing sites. It makes it very cohesive.

As a general rule of thumb, I don't like using the same color for text and background, because it makes it harder to read. Something more contrasting, like light bg color and dark text color works best IMO. There are exceptions to every rule, however.

Instead of the orange bg for the nav, you could use the same color green that "Summer Compact Sale" is written in. That could look nice.
