    Hi,
    I am a web design novice, building a website in my spare time relating to the antique and retro scene in my locality, using wordpress. Any advice on ways to improve the site appreciated.
    Regards Gerald.

    Look at the top of your canvas CSS file - it says:
    To make it easy to update your theme, you should not edit the styles in this file. Instead use the custom.css file to add your styles. You can copy a style from this file and paste it in custom.css and it will override the style in this file.
    So in your custom CSS put this:
    HTML Code:
    #contact-page ol.forms input.txt {
    width: 214px;
    background-color: your-color-here;
    }
    And that will dictate the color of the background for the text input areas of your contact form.

    Thank you for the information.
    Although I was a bit wary of doing this, I went ahead and did it anyway, worked a treat.
    Thanks again,
    regards Gerald.

    When you're working with WordPress, you can use custom CSS to override the basic CSS of the theme.
    It does not erase or alter the original CSS - it works because it gets read by the browser after the original CSS, and so it gets used instead.
    This is the basic idea behind child themes - except with a child theme you can go further and add custom functions and even javascript if you want to as well.
