Can you please rate my website design?

    Hey everyone,

Recently I started reading about web design and html/css and I have built my very first website. I've built many websites before, but this one is special because I started it from scratch using html5/css3. After html5 I converted it into a wordpress theme. It has theme options, custom homepage slider settings, customizable homepage, and I even added shortcodes. This was a complete learning project for me and I'm really happy with where it has gone.

I'm wondering if you guys can give me some pointers on how I can improve, and if I'm on the right track.

    Thanks

it is a temporary domain so I can see the theme online and work on it and show you guys :P

It's a theme. It's not a site, it's a theme. It's a fairly nice-looking theme assuming that it is indeed yours, and given the amount of detail you've gone into just explaining it in one paragraph I tend to believe you, but that's all that it is.

So there really isn't a lot I can say as far as improvement goes other than "put an actual site up with some real content and people can evaluate it better". It'll also help you bug-test your theme.
If I've helped you out in any way, please pay it forward. My wife and I are walking for Autism Speaks. Please donate, and thanks.

If someone helped you out, be sure to "Like" their post and/or help them in kind. The "Like" link is on the bottom right of each post, beside the "Share" link.

    Thanks for the comment.

I did design this theme from scratch. Began with html5 and css3 then moved it into a wordpress theme. As I said this was a learning project for me so I didn't want to build an actual website :P

My next goal is to learn responsive design, and hopefully I can then build a website from scratch that I can use as a blog and have real content. Will be sure to post another review when it happens

    Thanks,

    ThirdEye,

I tested the responsiveness of your design. Columns look bad. They basically stay 25%, resulting in ultra-narrow columns. I suggest making those columns into 100% width divs when screen is ~480px.

In terms of color, I think there's a clash when you use a powerful, bold color like red and you use it for a word like "freedom." Just my opinion.

Just a question: is it hard to design a theme and is there good money in it? I've often thought about making a WP theme. However, I haven't learned yet how to design admin UI and I'm not sure how easy it would be to market.
