    Just finished, opinions welcome.

This is a site I've just finished for a client who has started a painting and decorating business called Willows Painter and Decorator.

The company is based in Abingdon, hence the domain name:

[EDIT: link removed. The URL is already in the appropriate spot. Thanks. TheGAME1264]

I'd be interested in peoples opinions.

    Many thanks.

Looks nice. The code's relatively clean. It's simple enough, and that's probably what he wanted.

But it's almost impossible to read at points, particularly the home page copy. Contrast, dude...contrast. Light on light just doesn't work. I know what you're trying to do there, but the aesthetic only works if it's functional as well.

That, and I'd show some jobs the guy's done.

I like the paint chip background, a lot.
I like the colour-blocking idea, and I see why you want to use light, fresh colours, but perhaps you could go a shade or two lighter with the paint and use a dark font? It would be easier to read.
Portfolio, gallery, whatever you want to call it - he needs examples of his work on there. Right now there is one before and after in the slider - and there are a lot of really nice photos on the site, but there is nothing that specifically says that it is your client's work. Before and after photos are very effective - failing that, a gallery with photos and descriptions of the jobs - "exterior scraped and painted with XXX kind of paint" Interior masked and painted with eggshell latex paint , adding a faux marble finish" - stuff like that.
And I would not make the phone number a requirement on the contact form. Many people who will happily give their e-mail address will balk at giving out their phone number.

Depends on how much lead qualification the painter wants to do. A phone number qualifies the lead that much more, and if the owner's in a position where (s)he prefers quality over quantity asking for a phone number is okay.

    Thanks for the replies.

Yep, client did specifically ask for phone number to be required mainly due to the fact he's a really good salesman and if he gets them on the phone he's great at selling himself. Not so over emails.

I will show him this thread though, it is a good point.

Contrast, dude...contrast. Light on light just doesn't work.
To be honest it looks fine on my computer (newish iMac) with my eyes. Possibly not on other machines through other peoples eyes. You've both mentioned it so I'll have a think about that. I have changed to text colour to white (was a slight colour) which should improve, but might well take AlphaMare's advice.

A gallery is definitely on the cards put as of yet we don't have any decent photos. Once we do a gallery will be up there for sure. Also going to add a testimonials page and/or a case studies page.

That's surprisingly common. I'm better at it myself, even though I can do a good job using email. I also have a client who has about a 70% closing rate on an HVP if he can just talk to the customer.

So yeah, I'm totally on board with his logic.

I love it. Easy on the eyes, easy to navigate. I can't find anything wrong with it.

It's just an overall fantastically designed website.
